The Legal Hotline for Michigan Seniors relies on the generous support of caring citizens
like you. There are many ways that you can help us as we help Michigan seniors. Even if you can't volunteer your time, there are still many ways that you can help.

In 2007, the Legal Hotline received assistance from 490 donors and over 50 volunteers who donated a total of 3,294 hours. We would like to thank our current volunteers, previous volunteers, and donors.

  • Make a Donation
The Legal Hotline only receives a portion of its funds from the government. We rely on the generous support of people like you to continue our service. You can make your donation online or by sending a check by mail to The Legal Hotline for Michigan Seniors, 3815 West St. Joseph, Ste C200, Lansing, MI 48917.

  • General Volunteer
Retirees, undergraduate students, high school students, and others volunteer assistance to the Legal Hotline answering the phones, preparing mailings, drafting non-legal documents, participating in our client survey process, and other special projects. General volunteers throughout the state assist the Legal Hotline by helping with programs to tell seniors in their area about the services that are available. If you are interested in volunteering as a general volunteer, please contact us or send an email to volunteer@elderlawofmi.org.

  • Legal Volunteer
Law Students and Paralegals assist our attorneys by doing research, writing publications, and helping clients with additional services. About 15% of all of our cases receive some additional assistance from a legal volunteer or one of our attorneys. We work closely with Thomas M. Cooley Law School and Michigan State University's College of Law to recruit law students to assist us in our work. Our volunteers consistently report they learned a lot about the law while they worked with us and the experience looks fabulous on a resume! If you are interested in volunteering as a legal volunteer, please fill out our online volunteer form.

  • Pro Bono Attorney-Statewide
Attorneys throughout the state assist the Legal Hotline by agreeing to help a senior in their area who needs additional legal services. This may include assisting with a legal document or helping to resolve a legal matter. If you are interested in volunteering as a pro bono attorney for your area, please contact us or send an email to attorneypanel@elderlawofmi.org.

  • Pro Bono Attorney-In-officeAttorneys in the Lansing area assist the Legal Hotline by coming into our office and supporting our Hotline attorneys. It's a great opportunity to learn about the legal specialty of Elder Law.

  • Tell A FriendOne of the best ways that we have found to get the word out about the Legal Hotline and its wonderful services is by word of mouth. If you know a person age 60 or older in need of free legal advice, tell them about the Legal Hotline and encourage them to call us at 1-800-347-5297.

  • Help Us Tell Others
If you are a client of the Legal Hotline and would like to help us by allowing us to use your name and story to tell others about the work that we do, please contact us.

  • Tell Someone Who Can Support Us
We can always use a good word shared about our organization and its services. If you feel you have been helped by any of our staff or any of our materials, sing our praises to your elected representatives (your state and federal representatives and senators) by calling them or better yet, writing them a letter. Encourage companies and businesses you buy from or know of to consider providing support to us. Thank You!
