LANSING — Laura Sutter, Director of the Area Agency on Aging for St. Joseph and Branch Counties was one of four in the state given the 2019 Joe D. Sutton Call to Justice Award winners.
Honored by Elder Law of Michigan for promoting and preserving the dignity, independence and rights of older adults also were Mary Ablan, Benita Armstrong, and Dr. Joan Ilardo with Sutter were recognized for their contributions in the areas of positive systems change, improvements in patient-provider partnerships, community collaboration to protect vulnerable adults and direct interventions to protect older adults from abuse and neglect.
The award committee said, “Ms. Sutter is passionate about protecting those who are most vulnerable, having worked with key community leaders to implement a Vulnerable Adult Protocol document, provide training and education and has recently developed a victim assistance program directly serving victims of vulnerable adult abuse, neglect, and exploitation.”
