Why Donors Like You Are So Important
Today, there are nearly 2 million older adults in Michigan. During our 25 years of service, Elder Law of Michigan, Inc. has served an increasing number of older adults who face their legal issues alone. One in four Michigan older adults currently live alone, increasing their inability to access legal services when the need arises.
Do you know an older adult who lives alone? How about a widow or widower? What about an older parent whose children have moved away? Your support of the Access to Justice Fund can provide low-income older adults with legal assistance that they otherwise would not receive.
Many of these older adults face issues related to a wide range of legal topics including: debt collection, housing issues, estate planning, and medical care. Unfortunately, they don’t always have a place to turn in their communities for accessible, low-cost legal services to address their legal issues and protect their own well-being. Fortunately, you can make a real difference in older adults’ lives by providing an accessible legal resource, providing them much-needed peace of mind.
With community support from thousands of donors like you, Elder Law of Michigan, Inc. has provided legal services to over 300,000 older adults throughout the past twenty-five years. Yet, with a growing older adult population, demand from older adults in need of legal services continues to grow unabated. In 2016, demand has reached new heights with nearly 100 calls received each day searching for legal assistance. To address this demand, older adults need your support more than ever before.
Your contribution will provide older adults with access to legal services they would otherwise not receive. A donation from you helps older adults receive help in saving their home from tax foreclosure, navigating Medicaid, or representing themselves in small claims court to assert their rights. Your contribution helps older adults receive assistance in planning for their medical needs, providing peace of mind that their medical affairs are in order, or receive guidance on how to protect their income from individuals seeking to exploit them.
Elder Law of Michigan participates in the Access to Justice (ATJ) Campaign and encourages your support through the ATJ Fund. The ATJ Campaign is a collaborative centralized campaign, administered by the Michigan State Bar Foundation in partnership with the State Bar of Michigan, to increase resources for seven regional and eight statewide civil legal aid programs in Michigan. 100% of your donation will be distributed to support civil legal aid to the poor throughout Michigan.
